Good News
Jesus speaks about the good seed in today's gospel. The good seed is when we accept the word of God and act upon it. Many obstacles fall in between - it is up to us to push them aside and sow the good seed that produces.

We begin World Youth Day this Tuesday from Sidney, Australia. It is a time for the youth of the world to come and pray for each other and the world. Pope Benedict is expected to be present at the event. Please pray for the youth who are the next generation in the world.

Meeting of the 100th Anniversary and Fundraising will take place on Monday, July 14th at 6:30 PM in the church hall. Anyone having a table MUST attend as well as anyone who wishes to help. This is a very important meeting.

Volunteers needed to cut and trim the bushes in front and side of the church. Please call Fr. Tom. Thank you.

On Sun., Aug. 24th, a bus trip sponsored by the Rosary Sodality will be attending Fr. Charlie Borowski's Parish for the new ICON covering in Southbridge, Ma. The cost of the bus will be $15.00 per person. A sign up sheet will be in the back of the church. Only 47 seats. Following church services, the bus will stop on the way home for dinner.

Please let us know if you are moving or will be away for a lengthy period of time. We have to inform the envelope company.

St. Joseph's Parish will be selling money raffle tickets at the Downtown Sidewalk Sales on Aug. 1 & 2. If you are able to help for an hour or two, either of these days, please call Ann Young (632-7638) or Norrinne Sadowski (632-9425). Any help that you can give is greatly appreciated.

Theme baskets - the committee preparing theme baskets for the centennial church fair in August is asking for donations. Anyone interested in donating an item may contact Adele Peterson (632-3362) or Carolyn Fournier (632-1420).

Box tops for Education - we are collecting "box tops for education." There is a listing of all participating products next to the collection box. Please help us by saving as many box tops as possible and placing them in the collection box on the first landing over the next several weeks. Thank you.

August Centennial Celebration
the following items are needed for the kitchen: 25 empty 1 gal. water containers, 25 lbs. unsalted butter, 40 cans tomato soup, 20 cans crushed tomatoes, 2 lb. brown sugar, 3 jars chicken base, 40 - 1 lb. cans of sauerkraut, 35 lbs. Minute Rice, 5 lbs. coffee (regular), 5 cans Lemonade mix, 6 jars Ice Tea mix. Monetary donations will also be greatly appreciated. Items can be left in the kitchen. Donations can be put in the collection basket marked "kitchen." If anyone has a question, please call 632-0375. Deadline is Aug. 1st.

- the Kids' Table is in need of donations for its Chinese Auction such as new games, books, etc. Thank you.

Stewardship of Ministries

If you love your parish and would like to do something to help, then you are the one we are looking for.

  1. We are in need of more Servers. If you made your First Communion then you are perfect for the job.
  2. We need more Greeters. All you have to do is greet parishioners as they enter the church and hand out bulletins.
  3. We need more Lectors. Training will be provided.
  4. We need more Eucharistic Ministers. Training will be provided.
If you think you can help in anyway, either see Fr. Tom or fill out the Stewardship of Ministries form at the back of the church.

St. Martin's Church Summer Festival - to be help, Sat. July 19th at the Otter River Sportsman's Club. There will be raffles, Chinese auctions, baked goods, theme baskets, activities for the kids and music throughout the day. A chicken barbeque ($7 per person) will be served from noon to 1 PM and other food is available throughout the day. For ticket reservations, call the rectory at 939-5588.
